Because the name “Montessori” is in the public domain, the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) was begun by Dr. Maria Montessori to assist parents in making choices about which Montessori classrooms to enroll their children into.
An AMI recognized school endeavors to adhere to the highest standards for Montessori classrooms, those closest to the principles and standard practice that Maria Montessori developed originally and assures parents that the teachers are fully trained by AMI.
To receive an AMI accreditation, each school is evaluated yearly by the Association Montessori Internationale and is visited by an experienced AMI consultant every three years. These specially trained consultants observe in each classroom and then submit a written report to AMI concerning each teacher individually as well as a report on the school in general. A certificate of accreditation will then be issued by AMI based on the yearly evaluation and the consultation.
Northwood Montessori School has been a fully accredited AMI school since its inception in 1975. It is one of three fully accredited AMI schools in the greater Houston area.
“The world would be a much better place if we had more teachers like the Northwood teachers”.
